Winter mixed climbing in Harnham Chalk Pit © cbonner
Disused chalk quarry outside of Salisbury, only of local interest for dry toolers with an imagination! All of the rock is suspect - take care!
The best section of rock lies on the left side of the ramp leading to the upper quarry. A traverse line of M5 is possible.
The easterly section of the pit has some steep cliffs up to around 25m in height. No known routes climbed here yet.
The westerly mid terrace section holds some lines at easier grades, and are best tackled when the ground is frozen for more secure placements.
The lower west terrace provides some short problems or traverses.
The upper quarry provides little interest apart from a short wall on the east side.
Parking is possible in Montague Road, and the crag can be accessed by public footpath through the side road.
No known access issues. Please be considerate to local residents though.
The upper quarry is also used for BMX biking.
