Climbs 4
Rocktype Limestone
Altitude 2506m a.s.l
Faces S
One of the most emblematic summits of the Fuente De area of Picos de Europa. Its imposing South face makes every climber (and walker) stop in awe and wonder.
There is a characteristic central pillar, on either side of which climb the easiest routes, to join at the top of the pillar, right below the central chimney that leads straight to the summit.
From the top station of the cable car, it takes approximately 1 1/2 hrs to the base of the wall, on a clear, well-marked path. The wall on the South face is visible during most of the approach walk.
Descent is by walking off W-NW, on a well-marked path which is the normal walking route to the summit, to reach the col (collado) Horcados Rojos. From here, head S-SE to rejoin the approach path.
Standard access and approach relies on use of the cable car: 9 am - 8 pm. 17€ return / 11€ single (as of August 17).
Not using (or missing the last) the cable car would involve an extra 700+ m. walk/scramble over very steep terrain and gully (Canal de la Jenduda).
