Crag features

A huge intimidating cliff that thrusts forward as a massive jutting bastion, dropping straight to the river 200m below. There is a variety of climbing on the different faces.

Approach notes

Belvédère du Maugué is currently un-signed. It is the first double Belvédère and is situated 4.8 km from La Palud in the direction of Chalet Maline.

For the Arcanson abseils, from the parking descend the rocky crest in the direction of a distinctive pine tree. Pick up a line of cairns that head sharply back right before descending west to the rappel anchors that lead down L'Arcanson.

Guidebooks

France : Côte d'Azur

Côte d'Azur covers the famous cliffs of Calanques, Sainte Victoire and the Verdon and also includes some of the great venues around Toulon, the sunniest city in France. Plus there is the popular winter venue of Châteauvert, the less well known Esterel and Châteaudouble area. Add in Saint Jeannet and a selection of cliffs in the Nice area and this will become an essential volume for any climber.
