Rocktype Gneiss
Altitude 445m a.s.l

Crag features

The climbing is mostly delicate using friction. The routes quickly get above the trees. The routes are well bolted. Whilst the rock is Gneiss it is very compact and feels very much like granite. Descent is via 50m abseil back down the routes. It is possible to continue the 2nd climb to make a full day, descent by walking. http://www.campingacquafraggia.com/bette_en.html

The Via Ferrata goes up the large rock face above Chiavenna. To access it drive up the hairpins to Pianazolla; park near the top and follow the approach marked on the route descriptions, there is one of these by the information board at the start of the parking, and one further down the road at the start of the approach path.

Approach notes

From Chiavenna take the Valle dello Spluga road, 300m from the roundabout there is a church on the left with a free carpark on the right. Continue walking up the valley road. As the road levels out there is a small road on the right going uphill; take this past houses, it bears right and shortly there is a dirt track leading into the woods and a clearing with barns. Continue along the path taking the upper path at a junction. The slabs can be seen vaguely in the woods to the right. The most obvious landmark is where the path zig zags for the first time. Immediately after this there is a very vague arrow carved into a branch at the side of the path. A small path leads to the first route just 1 minute off the main path. ( There is a second set of zig zags higher up the path next to some slabs and a shrine. You have gone too far. ) An alternative car park and access path can be found here. http://www.campingacquafraggia.com/bette_en.html
