Neighborhood Crag, Yangshuo © Emilio Bachini
One of the closest crags to Yangshuo, although the approach feels a long way from the busy streets and pavements of the town. Situated a short distance uphill on the opposite side of the river to the road, pleasant views of Limestone towers and valleys can be enjoyed with frequent reminders from motorists you're not so secluded.
Typically overhanging routes for the more adventurous and experienced climber, it may feel like you are the first person to climb a number of the routes, though they have been climbed before. Small pieces of loose rock are frequent at present and there for an attentive belayer, a helmet and more traffic would be encouraged.
A basic understanding of the Yangshuo area is helpful and or guidebook for reference. Much of the initial approach from town is the same for crags in the Baby Frog area.
From the centre of town head West along Pantoa Road until just after the petrol station, then head South East on Jingfeng Road up to the traffic lights turning right and West again, this time on Longyue Lu Road. Continue straight up to the Xiangshui Road junction and park your vehicle of choice around this area.
On foot carefully follow the right side of the small water channel briefly North and around a leftwards bend for approximately 200 metres. Two bamboo structures sit either side of a large rock and a small path, which is where the approach becomes more off the beaten track so to speak. The crag is clearly visible from here, in front of a higher and larger cliff behind.
Bush wacking, scrambling and steep terrain experience are advised but not essential, though appropriate clothing and footwear are at this point. Continue along the questionably obvious track until a small once inhabited cave is passed followed by an easy scramble, another brief walk and finally an easy climb.
The approach is arguably a walk in the park compared to the descent, please take care.
