Crag features

Chinese Mountains is a set of andesite buttresses nestled in the high forests of Quadra island. They are not actually mountain crags, and all have short approaches of between 10-40 minutes from the car park on pleasant trails. The buttresses have characteristically compact rock and are often slabby, which means the climbs are almost all sport climbs (well-bolted) and that there are a lot of lower grade climbs. The rock is high friction and often features jugs and crimps.

Eagle Crag is one of the largest and most impressive crags on Quadra Island with superb views overlooking the ocean and mountains on Vancouver Island and the mainland Coast Range. Eagle Crag is about 60m high but perched as it is on the hillside the exposure feels much greater. There are walk-off/access paths at both ends of the crag to and from the base. The right (east) end of the crag is a little complex with several narrow ledges running out across the face to access the routes. The rest of the routes are easily reached from the forested base.
