Looking down the scramble © claudman

Crag features

2 distinct chalk gullies when viewed from the road [A24].
The most northerly one presents more of a challenge especially in the wet!
Best to solo unless you use adjacent shrubs/tree roots for runners.
Quite an intresting challenge with a potential 200ft bum slide/roll if you lose your footing!
Found whilst placing a Geocache [www.geocaching.co.uk]

Approach notes

From Stepping stones car park off the A24 Dorking,go over stepping stones/over bridge, and traverse esily along disused footpath [climbing over fallen trees etc]
After 10 mins ascend slightly to the second obvious chalk gulley. Return by way of footpath from the visitor centre

The stepping stones is a pub on the other side of the road. Just cross the road, follow the river until you hit the small pedestrian bridge. Turn left and keep walking through the woods until you can't anymore and then start going up. The path is quite slippery as it's all mud and stones; not rock. No point using ropes. The views are great, but otherwise, I didn't like it.

Did this scramble last Saturday, good fun. Could be quite easy at the bottom to slip into the river on the mud!

Good Scramble, Did this with a friend Yesterday, pretty easy, But fun and also offers pretty awesome views. Are there any areas around Box hill that would be good for bouldering or climbing?

The Quarry mentioned on the Reigate/ Dorking rd is a sssi and nature conservancy property and as such no climbing would be authorised as there are pereguin falcons nesting here [as well as some notable fauna I have been told] Had looked at it myself as there is a formidable crack [with a very loose block] which would have been a good challenge [if irresponsible given the site designation]

Did this on 8th June. No climbing gear needed. Enjoyable scramble with good views.

if you continue along the main road towards reigate there is an old abondoned chalk mine, excellent for chalk climbing! from very steep chalk slopes to 50 metre or so vertical chalk
