Les Tines

Haute Savoie, FRANCE

Climbs 60 – Rocktype Limestone – Altitude 800m a.s.l – Faces NE

Crag features
There are a number of crags at Les Tines, but the most popular are the one closest to the road (Rocher Hubert Ducroz) which is great for beginners (4a-6b) and the main cliff for serious stuff (5c-8c). The beginner's crag is single pitch (but you need a 70m rope to be lowered from the tallest point). The main crag is overhanging and is good on wet days.

On the opposite side of the road is a via ferrata with a number of options for joining and leaving, which gives options for short or longer routes.

Dead easy! 2 minute walk from ample parking off the only road from Samoens to Sixt. Use the same parking for the via ferrate which starts on the opposite side of the road.

Fabulous set of crags in a stunning setting! The beginners crag ranges from 4b to 6a and there are a few 2-pitch routes as well. There are a couple of smaller crags higher up (10 min from car) and then the really serious stuff - 6b to 8c - a magnificent, overhanging lump of limestone with a huge roof. The via ferrata is on the opposite side of the road and is a perfect warm-up/down! Lovely snack bar in the (free) car park and the village of Sixt Fer a Cheval is just 2 minutes up the road with bar, restaurant, shops etc. From there the Cirque du Fer a Cheval (listed site) and Cascade de Rouget are a few minutes drive away. All this plus great rafting and canoeing on the river running thru the village and past the crags, and great hiking make for the perfect location for an active summer holiday.
