Crag features

Annapolis Rock, a 2-mile hike up the Appalachian Trail in the backcountry of the South Mountain Recreation Area (South Mountain State Park), is a terrific, short band of western facing cliffs. The rock is bullet-hard quartzite characterized by smooth bulges and long, horizontal fractures.

Approach notes

Starting at the Appalachian Trail (AT) parking area off of US 40, follow the AT about 2 miles north to a downhill-sloping, blue blazed trail on the left.  As of 2018 it was marked with a small square sign reading "Annapolis Rock" at this intersection.  There is a well used campsite and an outhouse near the top of the clips.  From the overlook Argo Rock is about 75 yards to the north and South End is about 100 yards to the south.

No Access Issues

Some areas near the climbs are roped off for restoration.
