Climbs 100
Rocktype Quartzite
Altitude 729m a.s.l
Faces N
Steep, bullet-hard quartzite with routes to three pitches for all levels, 5.3 to 5.14. Even many of the easy routes offer "full value" in terms exposure and angle.
Heavy trade orientation with the exception to "Hanging Garden" area, which offers very steep, hard sport-climbing and a fourth-class approach; and the "North Face" area, which has some tough bolted routes.
A lot of people who've been both places compare the climbing experience here to New York's better-known 'Gunks.
In recent years, a designated parking lot for climbers was built in cooperation between N.C. State Parks and the N.C. Climbers Coalition to resolve access issues with locals.
This crag is in a state park, so abide by the rules listed at trailhead.
