Dale Quarry (Wirksworth) Derbyshire, ENGLAND
Climbs 9 – Rocktype Limestone – Altitude 185m a.s.l – Faces NW
An impressive quarry with a superb west facing wall containing the best route, Handy Wallhole. Other routes are getting quite vegetated. The bolts are 8mm rock anchors and date from 89-91 as do the remaining pegs so treat with utmost caution. These routes have NOT been verified as they most likely haven't had an ascent for 10+ years. If you do get to the bottom of 'The Big Hole' then beware, local folklore tells tales of dinosaurs roaming the swamp.
Out of print: Peak Supplement (1991)
Climbs at this crag
Once in Wirksworth park at the market place head and west past the Black's Head Pub. After 160m turn right into Allmark Garage. Find the fenced and stoned-off quarry entrance on the left(Danger sign!). Follow the track down a gully behind the fence into the quarry and descend the massive 'scree slope' (3 min).
