Good wet weather alternative if raining in Chamonix or good for cragging if staying in the the Aravis area,
Approx 1hr drive from Chamonix
From Le Grand Bornand head toward col de la Colombiere, just after the right hand bend (with turn off for Forclaz) start to look out for the first turning on your left uphill and signposted Culaz. (This is about 1km before Le Chinaillon)
Follow the road up with some narrow sectins and tight bends, look out for a right turn signposted escalade du Culaz. At end of road parking for 4-5 cars. Do not block access to the farms on either side.
5 minutes walk up to the crag, at the split the left turn atkes you to the left hand sector and the right hand split takes you to to the easier climbs on the right hand sector.

Great little crag for taking kids, or for a pleasant bit of holiday cragging. The right hand end of the crag has many short easy bolted lines - my girls did their first ever outdoor leads here! Not that polished really either. Recommended. There are some harder routes too 5's & 6's which look good.... Backinthegame - 27/Aug/12 |
