Crag features

Slabben (The Slab) is a 15-20m high crag. The thickest ice found in the Örebro and Kilsbergen area is usually formed here. Fine and solid ice can be found here from early November and well up into March.

The character of the crag and the ice makes it very suitable for beginners and the forest at the top of the crag provides excellent anchors for top-ropes and stands.

Given the character of the crag there are no established routes and the visitor is encouraged to do some own exploration. The climb is generally graded at WI2-WI3 depending on seasonal conditions.

Approach notes

Drive towards Garphyttan and continue against southern Storstenshöjden. Just after Storstenshöjden the road divides into a Y- junction. Take the road to the right and drive on for about 2 km. The crag is on the left side of the road, clearly visible and at the edge of a small bog containing chared and damaged trees.

No Access Issues

The crag is located on one of the Swedish Armed Forces Artillery Ranges (Villingsbergs skjutfält). Be sure that no exercises are taken place before entering the area! If the Army is having exercises, the road is usually closed off. Never touch any unexploded ammunition, should this be encountered.

For information on when the area is closed visit http://www.skjutfalten.se (Swedish only) or call +44(0)586 84021.
