The Wild Side is open again!

© Keith Sharples

The fabulous Wild Side, at Sella on the Costa Blanca (left), has reopened to climbers. This superb leaning wall is on private land and there have been many problems over the years because of the bad behaviour of climbers at the crag. Since around 2001 there has been no formal access allowed.
The current land owner has decided to once again allow climbers onto the crag. It goes without saying that behaviour is critical in order to maintain the situation.
The land owner also has plans to develop the area with facilities including a toilet and shower block and a restaurant and camping in the near future. However, these new developments may bring an entrance fee with them for those wishing to climb and there are fire concerns over the camping.

Sam They emailed me yesterday about their plans. Publically I have always stated that Wild Side was closed since that is what everyone told me. It may well have still been okay to climb there, especially if you went and chatted to Jack, but I was going to print that in a book, nor state it on the web site if that wasn't what the situation was officially. Now I have received the email confirming that climbing is okay, I have publicised the fact so that all those who aren't in the know (because I haven't been able to print it for years) are aware. This is the way we have to do it I'm afraid. I knew unofficially as much as you did. Thanks for the info that Jack is still the owner, I shall update the web site. Alan
