Alpinism: Then and now

Seven climbers are trying to draw attention to the changes over the last 150 years, in mountaineering and the Alps, by dressing up like 19th Century English gentlemen to climb in the Swiss Alps this week.

They will be climbing 10 classic routes and sending daily e-mail despatches to BBC News Online, as well as taking part in a live forum from Mount Eiger. They're trying to raise awareness about the dramatic changes to the landscape including glaciers which have receded by 200 metres over this period.
