Long overdue Peak Bolt Fund is established

© Jon Fullwood
Back in July 2006 I wrote, "Anyone who climbs Peak sport routes would have to agree that there is a lot of re-equipping needs doing. The Yorkshire Bolt Fund is a shining example of just how well such a fund can work and to my knowledge the Peak doesn't have a bolt fund. All it takes is a few well situated donation points, a bank account, a few basic rules (i'd say that the fund should only be used for re-equiping i.e. new routes come out of your own funds) and someone willing to look after/dish out the fund. For donations, a Paypal button could be a good start, plus a few collection boxes in suitable places (climbing walls, climbing shops).Thoughts anyone?"

This idea seemed to go down quite well and since then keen Peak-limestoner Paul Bennet has stepped forward to fill the treasurer post, an account has been set up, the collection pots are in the post and a Paypal donation button has been established. The fund has recieved several generous donations and pledges. Notably the donation of a good chunk of the necessary hardware by Neil Foster which will go a long way to get things moving.

The fund will be for re-equiping only, so you can rest assured your money will not be used for retro-bolting or people's personal new routing.

If you have or do enjoy sport climbing in the peak please join the effort to keep the crags in good order, by either donating online via the Paypal button or at one of the collection boxes which we hope to locate in local shops/walls. Alternatively you can send a cheque made payable to 'Peak Bolt Fund', addressed to PBF, 10 Wath Road, Nether Edge, Sheffield, S7 1HE

Steve I'm aware of the criticism the YBF has recieved for using funds for retro-bolting and new routing. That's why i've taken pains to state from the outset that the PBF is not to be used in this way. As long as I have charge of the gear it will not be let out for either purpose. If friends ask me for stuff to do new routing, I would probably lend them my tatty old drill and sell them some PBF bolts at a slight profit to the fund.

Bloody hell, who in Yorkshire used YBF money to do their own routes? The Ent

Sorry Enty, come to think of it i've heard people complain about the retro bolting but not new routing. I have absolutely no idea if YBF money is used for that. For what it's worth I think the YBG has done a great job in Yorshire and are part of the inspiration for our peak effort.
