Ex pat and Boulder Colorado resident, Freddie Snalam, was killed in an avalanche last week while climbing in La Grave with friend Roy Townsend. Freddie, 55, who was originally from Preston, was well known in his adopted town as an enthusiastic climber and hot dog seller on Boulder's Pearl Street Mall for the last 16 years. He had travelled extensively in pursuit of snow, ice and rock and was a keen photographer, regularly covering the Ouray Ice Festival and other outdoor venues. He authored several books including a memoir of his time on Pearl Street Mall entitled "It's a Hot Dog's Life."
