Nepal definitely open again, says Foreign Office

The Foreign Office says it's safe again to go the mountain kingdom: "Following the killings of members of the Royal Family on the night of 1 June and the subsequent period of court mourning and wide social unrest, Nepal has now returned to normality. Most visits to Nepal remain trouble-free."

However, the FCO notes, "Travellers should be aware of threats associated with Maoist groups. British Nationals are advised not to trek alone."

Hundreds of climbers set to visit the Himalayas in the post-monsoon season, which begins towards the end of September, will be relieved to know their expeditions can go ahead as planned.
