What Would You Do For 50 Quid?

It seems like they're all at it. In our recent news item on The Climbing Works, we reported a cash prize for the first to complete a 'special' boulder problem. It would appear that this trend is growing, with Climb Newcastle running a similar competition.

The Climb Newcastle competition has a twist; they publish a video showing exactly how the problem is climbed, giving all competitors the chance to gain valuable 'video beta' before the big day.

Chris Graham of Climb Newcastle described their latest comp:

"This month we had a rollover so it was £100, won by one of the strongest young climbers around Micky Page"

Micky Page was described by Tyler Landman in the UKC 2008 Bouldering Article as a "Geordie underground legend" following his repeat of the Font 8C sit start to Kheops. With competitors operating at that level, it's fair to say that this won't be the easiest £50 you've ever earned.

I asked Chris Graham about their drug testing policy;

"No drug testing at our comps although a couple of our competitors may have been over the limit on the caffeine!"

its a good idea to get people climbing harder, but do we really need an incentive to climb?

Darn it! What a smooth ascent of a great looking problem. That's it, I'm off to the wall. Mick

I think January's Climb Newcastle problem is a rollover so it is worth £100!
