It's a big weekend in the Peak (Sheffield) and if you are about there is lots going on - there is a spot of rain forecast if you are climbing outside!
The CWIF
CWIF - The Climbing Works International Festival starts today at 9am. Nearly 300 climbers will be competing for huge cash prizes of over £4,000, all on the brand new Berghaus Competition wall.

On Sunday the semi-finals start at 12.00, BBQ at 3pm and the finals at 6pm.
If you can't make it the semis and finals are being streamed live on www.247.tv and more than likely the Finnish climber Nalle Hukkataival will be in the finals - fresh back from Bishop, California where he established a direct finish (no pun intended) to Matt Birch's The Swarm and ground-upping, the very tall, Evilution (think E8 without ropes) - we also believe he'll be visiting God's Rock after The CWIF.

The Sheffield Adventure Film Festival - Spyke and Big Ron
At the same time ShAFF - The Sheffield Adventure Film Festival runs this weekend. Films and speakers galore, full details at Sheffield Adventure Film Festival - This Weekend
My two hot lecture picks for ShAFF are Big Ron Fawcett, who is recovering from surgery on his ankle, and the equally amazing, Spyke, who made a continuous round of Scotland's 283 Munros in the unprecedented time of 39 days, nine hours, six minutes last year

I now have something in common with Ron Fawcett. We were both double winners of the raffle at Spyke's talk at Hathersage Memorial Hall last Thursday - Oh the glory! - the raffle benefited the in-need-of-repair Hathersage Lido outdoor pool and an Ethopian project; Spyke donated his fee to those causes as well.
The CWIF 2011 is supported by Scarpa, UKClimbing.com, Holdz and HRT . These companies help make The CWIF what it is. Without this support, The CWIF would not be as much fun.
This year The CWIF will also be used as part of the qualification process for those wishing to be in the Senior British Bouldering Team. You can read more about this on this UKC article.
