Bouldering World Cup So Far - With Videosby Jack Geldard - UKC Chief Editor Jun/2011This news story has been read 6,805 times
The bouldering world cup is well under way. Back in April we reported on the first round in Milan, Italy. Since then there has been four more rounds across the world; Slovenia, Austria, Canada and America. In the 'world cup' points from each round are added together to rank the climbers over the whole series. In the separate event of the 'world championships' climbers compete in a one off event. We will be reporting on the world championships later in the year. There are four more rounds of the World Cup to go. These are to be held in The Netherlands, Spain, England and finishing in Germany on the 20th of August.

Current Overall World Rankings:Men Top 12
Stew Watson is in 12th place in the above table and other top placed Brits are David Barrans in 27th place and Ned Feehally in 37th. Women Top 12
The top British women are currently Diane Merrick in 38th place and Mina Leslie-Wujastik in 39th.
"Stewart Watson missed topping a second boulder by a fraction in the semi-final placing him 9th overall. If he had latched the hold he would have made the final. A fantastic show all the same. Diane Merrick and Jon Partridge came tantalisingly close to topping many boulders, but couldn't quite finish. They placed 30th and 39th respectively." And on the Vienna competition: "The men's qualification proved to be a frustrating affair for the GB Team. Both Stewart Watson and Ned Feehally narrowly missed out on qualifying for the semi-final due to taking more attempts to complete three of the blocs. In the other qualification group John Partridge completed the bloc with the hard jump and narrowly failed to complete two other blocs where he managed to get one hand on the final hold but failed to match. The men's favourite for the event Kilian Fischhuber also failed to qualify for the men's semi-final." With four more rounds to go, and one of them being on home turf at Sheffield, we hope the British bouldering Team can continue their efforts and fingers crossed that we see current top placed brit Stew Watson make the finals and rank in the top ten.
