British climber Hazel Findlay has made a free ascent of the world's most iconic rock face; El Capitan in Yosemite Valley, California. Findlay, climbing with Austrian Hansjorg Auer, free climbed 'Golden Gate', a route first put up by the legendary Huber brothers back in 2000.

Hazel has written up an account of her ascent on her blog here: Hazel Findlay Blog

From the report it seems Hazel and Hansjorg swung leads on the route and that Hazel climbed every pitch free, some seconding and some leading.

Hazel commented:

"Freeing El Cap was once of my most enjoyable climbing experiences and also the most challenging. Although, for now I'm psyched to go bouldering and single pitch climbing I know I'll be back on El Cap at some point."

UKC hope to have more info and a full report on Hazel's ascent soon.
