Women's Climbing Symposium - This Weekendby Alan James - UKC Nov/2011

"It is a day about women's climbing, how we do it, how we can get more from it and where we would like to see it going."
The day is being attended by some of the top names in women's climbing from around the World. People like Lucy Creamer, Alex Puccio, Katherine Schirrmacher, Emma Twyford, Audrey Seguy, Lucinda Whittaker, Kitty Wallace, Diane Merrick, Mina Leslie-Wujastyk and Shauna herself. There will be coaching workshops and lectures as well as plenty of time for climbing, socialising and meeting other climbers. There is also a parents workshop run by Ian Dunn, British Junior Team Climbing Coach.
This is what the day looks like:
10:10am: Quick hello from us and 45mins to climb on the circuit for the day and chat/meet.
10:50 -11:00am: Mule bar munchies and samples
11:00 - 11:45am: Self disabling habits and behaviours –A mini lecture exposing and analysing these universal habits by Vikki Cassell and coaching on how to work on them to reduce their impact.
11:45 -12:00pm: Comfort break.
12:00 -1:15pm: Coaching carousel part 1, 2 & 3 Key skills as identified by climbing coaches that nearly everyone needs to get to grips with.
1:15 -1:25pm: comfort break
1:25 - 2:15pm: Coaching carousel parts 4 & 5.
2:15 - 3:00pm: LUNCH
4:00 - 4:20pm: Alex Puccio, the feminine athlete and identity (TBC)
Things split off here into two separate groups; the mini lectures for parents, and the coaching for climbers.
4:20pm onwards – Ian Dunn, British Junior Team Climbing coach leads a discussion on his experiences with parents about climbing children and what to expect and things he has learnt from nearly a decade in youth coaching.
4:20 - 5:45pm Coaching myself: 3 useful and useable ways of improving your own climbing.
6:00 - 8:00pm: Centre remains open for chatting, climbing, milling, hanging out, arguing, debating, fist fights and needlework.
