Deadly Avalanche on Mont Maudit

A serac release has triggered an avalanche on Mont Maudit, Chamonix. This large avalanche has killed at least nine climbers early this morning, with four more climbers still missing.

The photo above clearly shows the normal route up Mont Maudit (climbers in the lower right) and the serac danger on that slope.

Those found are reported to include three British climbers. The names of those involved have not yet been officially released, however we will update this report when that information becomes public.
