The mountaineering camera-man has hotfooted it up the Aiguille Verte, Les Droites and Les Courtes in the Argentierre basin, Chamonix. He finished his huge day with the Swiss Route on Les Courtes and skied down the south side on his lightweight skis wearing his climbing boots.
You can read his full account on his excellent blog, but what we liked best was the three summit photos, as he gets more tired through the day (understandably!).
Jon commented on his blog:
"The initial idea was to make the Courtes summit at sunset therefore allowing me to ski the south side in relatively soft snow. I knew that it would be getting baked and the last thing I wanted to do was to have to ski steep concrete at night. But as I dug my way up through some very sketchy terrain I went from hoping to make the Courtes summit at sunset, to starting the Courtes at sunset, to simply getting off the Droites before sunset. Things weren't looking good and I was wasting tons of energy gaining very little ground. I started to understand how the poor Lithuanian climbers had become stuck in bad weather up here. The mixed was hideous, the snow rotten, and the rock slabby. In a storm it would have been near impossible to climb out."
Good effort Jon!
