Shauna Coxsey has issued a statement to UKC announcing that she is withdrawing from the IFSC World Championships in Paris next month, due to a shoulder injury incurred during the final round of the IFSC Boulder World Cup last weekend. Shauna is scheduled to undergo surgery on Monday.

The news comes as a disappointing end to what has otherwise been an outstanding season for Shauna - winning the overall World Cup title and picking up an MBE for Services to Climbing along the way (UKC news report).

Shauna's statement is as follows:

'Unfortunately I picked up a shoulder injury in the final round of the ISFC Bouldering World Cup in Munich so have decided not to compete at the Climbing World Championships next month. I'm really lucky to have a great team around me and will be working with them and my coach Mark Glennie to get healed up and back training as soon as possible.

I'm obviously gutted to be missing out on the World Championships, but realistically this is not the worst time to have an injury as I have achieved my goal of winning the overall World Cup title and I have now got the off season to recover so I can get back on form and back to training harder than ever to defend my title next year.

It is still early days so it is hard to say what the recovery time will be, I am having surgery on Monday. I am incredibly thankful to have the opportunity to work with a really great team and I feel lucky to have some down time ahead to ensure I give myself enough time to fully recover.'

We wish Shauna a full and fast recovery.

Wasn't obvious which problem. I'm guessing that it was the first because she stopped climbing whilst still having time on the clock on that one. Left shoulder? Best of luck with a speedy recovery though.
Argh no... Get well soon Shauna!

It was P2 where she picked it up. She climbed P3 very static and then got strapped up before P4.
