FRI NIGHT VIDEO - Cape Wrath Ultra

© BMC TV

Our Friday Night Video this week is a tour through some of the most idyllic scenery in the British isles; a 400km ultra-running race through the Scottish Highlands: The Cape Wrath Ultra. The team behind the film followed the competitors on their eight day journey and captured the extreme highs and lows of ultra running. Starting in Fort William, the route heads north through some of the most remote places in Britain, over moors, mountains, tussocks, bogs and rivers.

Ita Emanuela Marzotto of Italy, the 2016 ladies' winner, said: "This race is the hardest thing I've done, harder than the 10 day race in Australia or the Marathon Des Sables."

Men's winner Marcus Scotney commented "The Cape Wrath Ultra is a truly stunning and amazing route up through the Highlands of Scotland. No two days were the same, and each one offered something different."

What a superb, inspiring film that was. Beautifully made, showing the beauty of Scotland and the incredible spirit of the competitors.

I was excited to see how this week's 'Friday Night Video' would disappoint me; would it be forgettable (two funny blokes jumping about on little rocks, looking vaguely uncomfortable with one another), ethically unsound (posho bolts enormo-phallus), or shit ('will it blend' with a drone)? Lo and behold, a surprise; it's not even climbing. No comment on the video, as I'm sure it's great if you like hills and running and so on - it's just good to see that UKC is constantly evolving.
