The shortlist for the 2017 Boardman Tasker Award for Mountain Literature has been announced. Amongst the six books shortlisted are four books by British publishers. 34 entries were submitted this year from Britain, the USA, Canada, Italy and France.
Three books by Sheffield-based Vertebrate Publishing have been shortlisted: The Magician's Glass by Ed Douglas (UKC interview), a collection of eight climbing essays on climbing life and culture; Art of Freedom, a profile of one of the climbing world's most respected figures, Voytek Kurtyka; and Days to Remember, a collection of tales from well-known mountain guide Rob Collister, alongside September Publishing's Among the Summer Snows by Christopher Nicholson.
The Push by US climber Tommy Caldwell (Micheal Joseph, Penguin Random House) and Naked Night by Erhard Loretan and Jean Ammann (Mountaineers Books) complete the six shortlisted books.
The Award will be presented at the Boardman Tasker event at the Kendal Mountain Festival, on Friday November 17th 2017. The judges for this year are Helen Mort (Chair), Peter Gillman and Kate Moorhead.
