The International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) has announced a partnership with Japan Airlines. The airline aims to support the development of Sport Climbing ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics as an IFSC Main Partner, with a presence throughout the 2018 season at IFSC events and activities.

In a press release, IFSC President Marco Scolaris commented:

'We are thrilled to have such a committed partner sharing the same vision and passion for aiming higher, especially during a period of substantial growth and new opportunities for sport climbing. We are looking forward to flying into the challenges of tomorrow with Japan Airlines.'

The airline is also a partner of the Japan Mountaineering and Sport Climbing Association (JMSCA).

'Japan Airlines will be strongly represented on IFSC social media as it aims to pass on a better society to the next generation through the airline business,' the press release continues. 'The company's "Fostering the Next Generation" program provides hands-on educational experiences and social welfare to children, and Japan Airlines also supports young athletes by encouraging JAL Mileage Bank members to donate their miles to under-funded sports projects.'

The growing popularity of climbing in Japan and the rise of country's high-performing national team - who topped the team rankings in bouldering last season - underpin the partnership agreement ahead of Sport Climbing's Olympic debut in Tokyo 2020.
