ROUTE DESCRIPTIONS

Crackstone Rib, Carreg Wastad

One of the great Welsh Classics. It has a fine exposed rib pitch which is especially photogenic. Start at the foot of *****

1) 30ft. Climb a short crack to a ledge. Belay on the left.

2) 80ft. Follow a well-worn traverse leftwards to the arete passing a depression, good runners. Step round boldly and follow the arete in an exposed position to reach a ledge. A short wall leads to a better ledge.

3) 65ft. Climb the easy groove on the right to a corner. Continue up to a traverse line on the left wall. Follow this to finish up a short crack.

Nectar, Stanage

Undeniably one of the finest routes on gritstone. It is technically sustained and with good protection. A demanding sequence of bridging and laybacking moves up the corner leads to a welcome rest under the roof. Leaning from the right reach the roof crack above the corner. Follow this with great difficulty. Purists and the small may have to climb out from the back!

Little Brown Jug, Bosigran

A must for any competent party, one of the best routes of its grade in *****. Start 50ft right of the Coal Face, by a small overhung corner.

1) 70ft, 4b. Break out right over the overhang and follow the slim groove to ledges and a belay on the left.

2) 60ft. Climb diagonally right to belay on a ledge just left of an overhanging tongue of rock.

3) 70ft, 4c. Take the leftward-curving crack to a black ledge, peg runner, and pull over the bulge. Continue to the trough of Ledge Climb and climb the overhanging crack to the top.

Little Chamonix, Shepherd's Crag

One of the UKs most popular multi-pitch climbs - a true classic - long, varied and with a much photographed top pitch. Start below a short right-facing corner/crack 5m right of the pinnacle.
Pitches:

1) 28m. Climb the short right-facing corner/crack and then move right to a corn

2) 23m. Climb the left-hand groove and at its end gain the top of a block. Sidle right along it and get established in a slabby corner. Follow the arête to a stance and belays.

3) 11m. Head up the wall to a small pinnacle and from its top climb the short steep exposed wall to the top (or the crack right of the pinnacle).
