Cerro Torre ascents

Exceptionally stable conditions prevailed in the Fitzroy massif in early February 2005. Several teams made a successful ascent of the Compressor Route on Cerro Torre (left). The summit mushroom was in very straightforward condition, unlike on the surrounding peaks, where the final few metres defeated several teams, including a spectacular lob on Torre Eggar.
A British team from Plas y Brenin comprising Steve Long, Neil Johnson and Iain Peter reached the summit via the Compressor Route on February 9th. Meanwhile, Kevin Thaw and Leo Houlding successfully climbed the North Pillar of Fitzroy.
