Andy Cave's Learning to Breathe won the Best Book in the Adventure Travel category at this years Banff Festival. Jim Perrin won Best Book in the Mountaineering History category with his biography The Villain: The Life of Don Whillans. This comes soon after they jointly won the UK's Boardman-Tasker prize. In addition Mick Fowler won the Mountain Literature award for his book On Thin Ice. The Grand Prize in the book festival was won by Karsten Heuer's Being Caribou.

“Sur le fils des 4000,” directed by Gilles Chappaz , took the Grand Prize at the Banff Mountain Film Festival. The film follows the adventure of Patrick Bérhault and Phillippe Magnin as they attempted to link all 82 of the Alps' 4000-meter peaks in winter conditions. Bérhault fell to his death on the attempt. “This film is about a beautiful adventure shared by two friends,” says festival jury member Laurence Gouault. “It shows their passion, love, and respect for the mountains and allows us to share the last journey of a great climber.”
