Andy Kirkpatrick and Ian Parnell have just completed the second ascent of the Lafaille Route on the west face of the Petit Dru. It was climbed last year and claimed to be the hardest route in the Alps. The pair climbed the route, albeit with some variations, at new wave A4 with pitches up to Scottish VIII. Phew, that exciting my internet connection dropped off. Well done lads, I might come to the debriefing when you put it together. Anyone got any chalk, my hands are slipping off the keyboard.
I share your concerns about how nationalistic the Everest celebrations will be, particularly if the celebrations of the 50th aniversary of climbing Annapurna here in France are anything to go by. I just wish this sort of chauvinism would disapear from climbing of all forms from bouldering to alpinism Doug
