Steve McClure Working New Hardest Sport Route

© Al Lee: www.posingproductions.com
In May this year after Steve McClure's ascent of Overshadow 9a+ at Malham Cove we asked Steve, what is next?

He replied, "Maybe the extension to Steve Dunning's Northern Exposure at Kilnsey."

Norther Exposure is a short but very hard 8b+ to the right of Dominatrix. It finishes where Steve is in the photo up left (click on it to make it bigger). As you can see there is a lot of climbing above the anchors of Northern Exposure and Steve has begun to piece it all together.

Alastair Lee of Posing Productions has been filming Steve on this route for his forthcoming video, PSYCHE and in a mini-feature at www.posingproductions.com (that includes photos) says,

"Steve says the route is definitely as hard as his latest offering 'Overshadow' (9a+) at Malham and is potentially even harder which would make it one of the hardest routes in the world and certainly the hardest in Britain."

Steve is in Greece at the moment, but hopefully with a good October, he may make even more progress up this mega route.

You can see Steve climbing a 9a sport route, Mutation at Raven Tor, where the holds are so small a gust of wind probably blew him up it, here.

Steve McClure is sponsored by Petzl, Five Ten, Beal and Fat Face.

The man just seems to be head and shoulders above anyone else in the country at the moment. Incredible motivation to be putting up this sort of route in England.

That's because he is. This latest project looks blank from below. You can see holds on Northern Exposure, but none on Steve's project! Ste Dunning said it was Font 8a territory after the belay. Andy F

Took some photographs of Steve playing on this and you have to look close to see the dirty crimps he's using. Fantastic. Will be awesome when it goes. Let's hope for a dry couple of months.
