Katy Whittaker - Braille Trail - E7 6c

© Katy Whittaker
Katy Whittaker has climbed Braille Trail (E7 6c) at Burbage. The route was first climbed back in 1984 by Johnny Dawes. Katy practised the route on top-rope, before going for the lead protected by a door handle, what looks like a nail and a micro cam.

Talking to Martin Panton of Marmot, Katy said:

"It is a well nice route, and I have wanted to do it ever since I saw it years ago..."

Katy has amassed quite a gritstone ticklist, with ascents of several hard routes. Recently she has headpointed (after top-rope practise) Master's Edge (E7 6b), Kaluza Klein (E7 6c) and now Braille Trail (E7 6c). She has also flashed (climbing first go without top-rope inspection) Nosferatu (E6 6b).

Away from the Grit, Katy has climbed the F8a Out of my tree at Raven Tor as well as routes of up to F8a in Europe.

Katy was the 2007 British Bouldering Champion.

Good effort. I think I'm right in saying that the first bit of gear is a shop fitting from Outside that one of the Cosseys created/modified/acquired when he/they did it.

Katy, honestly, he said "make sure you handle the early section then nail the traverse". There's no need to take things so literally... Ben
