British climber Emma Twyford is currently on the island of Kalymnos, Greece. Ten days in to her three week trip, on Friday 22nd of October, she managed to onsight the 40m tufa-fest of Fun de Chinhunne (F8a) in the famous Grande Grotta.

The route was originally graded F8a+, but has now settled to F8a. The endurance route is a huge roof on large tufa stalactites, and has 28 bolts. Emma was on the route for around two hours.

Earlier in her trip she also managed a stylish onsight of the classic and much photographed F7c Aegialis.

Neil Foster who witnessed Emma's Aegialis ascent commented:

"I watched Emma on sight Aegialis in the Grande Grotta on Wednesday, and it was extremely impressive.  I had just failed on the route (though I did get pretty high up!) so I know first hand just how steep and strenuous it is!"

Emma has around a week left on the island and is apparently just getting in to the swing of things - good luck!

Emma is one of the very best climbers operating in the current British scene. She has flashed both E7 and F8a, headpointed E9 and is the first British woman to redpoint F9a.

I just noticed she was on the route for 2 HOURS! Man alive that's stamina - there must be some decent rests?

I did get complimented by someone at the crag once as he was so impressed for how long I was on the route. I noted that he didn't mention he was impressed by the grade. I wish I could recall what route it was but it was some mid grade trad route and not hard - he was definitely in irony mode! Anyway, I did read the report with interest as well. Well done Emma.

......and yet another lowering off into space shot. It's a real shame there is no news of somebody climbing Gargoyle Flake at Bamford.
