In this excerpt from Chuck Fryberger's "Core", the grand master of bouldering, Fred Nicole, gives us his view on bouldering, what motivates him and why he came to be where he is today.

We also get to see him climb L'isola che non c'e (The island which doesn't exist), a boulder route in a cave near Amden is Switzerland which he made the first ascent of a couple of years ago.
The climb has a sit start as a boulder problem and finishes as a route, which is a bit unorthodox, but like Fred says:

"... yeah, I think it's great, I think everything is open. We have all these posibilities. I don't expect any judge me to tell me that's right, that's wrong or so..."

Fred didn't give the problem/route any grade, but says it's somewhere in the 9th (route) grade.
