Berghaus logo, 11 kbMick Fowler has announced details of his next expedition. In September, he will lead a team of four to attempt a new route on Cerro San Lorenzo, which at 3700m is the second highest peak in Patagonia. Mick and his climbing partners aim to put up a new route on the imposing east wall. Mick Fowler is a member of the Berghaus team of sponsored climbers and the company has supplied him with products from its Extrem range for the expedition.

The east wall of Cerro San Lorenzo is divided by the east ridge, a section that was climbed in 1986, but the south and south east faces are unclimbed, and represent the team's objectives. The four climbers will work in two teams. Mick will climb with Es Tressider, while Steve Burns and Ian Cartwright make up the other partnership.

Mick comments:
It looks like Cerro San Lorenzo will present us with some magnificent mountaineering challenges. The chief problems we will face are expected to be getting there, technical climbing and perhaps most significantly, extreme weather, but we are optimistic and really looking forward to the trip.

The team leave on 17 September and the expedition is expected to last for three and a half weeks. News from the trip will be posted on www.berghaus.com when Mick returns to the UK.

At 3706m Cerro San Lorenzo is the second highest peak in the Patagonian Andes. Its a huge mountain range with a mainsummit guarded by long ridges that connect two minor summits (Cumbre Sur, 3385m and Cumbre Norte, 3567m). The mountain rises about 3300 meters out of the flat Patagonian surroundings. The range is packed with glaciers. The weather on the mountain is rarely stable.
