£500 cash prize for winner + Arc'teryx kit for runners up
The annual Arc'teryx Photo Shot photography competition at Sheffield Adventure Film Festival returns for 2012 and YOU could see your photos exhibited alongside four of the UK's top adventure photographers, and win a stack of Arc'teryx kit.
One wild card entry, chosen by the ShAFF judges will get the chance to go head-to-head with four of the best professional adventure photographers selected by documentary outdoor, adventure photographer Alex Ekins and photographer, Climb magazine editor and climber Ian Parnell in this unique competition.
The high-octane, audience-driven event is compered by comedian, climber and author, the one and only Niall Grimes. The competition is a chance for amateurs and pros to vie with the best adventure photographers in the business for a £500 cash prize and a whole heap of Arc'teryx kit. Each has to create and present a five minute audio-visual presentation at the film festival to an audience who will rate their approval vocally.
Last year, Peak District caver and professional photographer Rob Eavis won the £500 cash prize against stiff competition, including 17-year old student and mountain biker Sam Davies. The previous year then amateur photographer and computer science PhD student Alexandre Buisse) scooped the prize. “As long as you have photos that show you love adventure then you should give it a try because I wasn't pro when I entered. Try to be fast-paced and don't make it a boring slide show,” advised Alex to potential participants.
To enter the competition, simply send six photos that you feel represent your portfolio well. Email them to firstname.lastname@example.org – they will be stored in the ShAFF online gallery where they will be publically viewable. Photos must be uploaded by Feb 19th. The chosen finalist will be contacted on Feb 20th. If you are selected you will need to be able to attend the event which takes place at 20.30 on Sat 10th March at ShAFF at the Showroom Cinema in Sheffield.
Judge, documentary outdoor, adventure photographer Alex Ekins said: "Adventure photography is all about people; the subjects of a photograph doing something physically and mentally challenging. In the Arc'teryx Adventure Shot Competition I will be looking for photographs that capture the joy, the danger, the suffering, the dedication and the exhilaration of engaging in an extraordinary adventure."
