Polartec's Challenge Grant is an international programme that has been aiming to 'encourage the spirit and practice of human-powered outdoor adventure' for 22 years. The fabric company have selected four projects to support with a grant this year: a source-to-sea expedition across Siberia, a paddle and bike trip across Asia, a bicycle traverse of Australia and a sail and ski trip in and around Iceland and Greenland.
Last year, six projects received a Polartec Grant, including British climber Malcolm Bass, who was the first Brit in five years to make it through the gruelling judging process. His proposal was to climb the Southwest face of Rimo III in the Indian Karakorum with a team.

The deadline for entries is 31 December 2013. Applications are evaluated on the basis of 'vision, commitment, educational and cultural value.' The aim is to assist low impact teams who respect the local culture and environment and serve as role models to outdoor enthusiasts worldwide. As well as funding, all winning teams will be fully kitted out with outdoor gear made from Polartec fabrics.
