Marmot are delighted to announce the addition of Andy Turner, one of Britain’s most accomplished winter climbers, to their athlete team with immediate effect.
Andy Turner is at the forefront of mixed climbing in the UK, having many first ascents of the hardest routes to his name as well as repeats of other cutting edge routes. The skills he learnt in the harsh British winters have been taken around the globe from the Southern Alps of New Zealand to Patagonia to the Lofoten Islands in Norway. Not content with pushing the standard of mixed climbing those talents have also been used to force the standards of the new wave of dry-tooling in the UK.
Last winter he decided he needed a new challenge and decided to put his considerable skills to the test by entering the world of competition climbing, in 2014 he is set to represent GB at the Ice Climbing Festival taking place as part of the Winter Olympics in Sochi.
You will have the chance to meet Andy Turner at the Kendal Mountain Festival the 14th – 17th November along with other members of the Marmot Athlete team.Follow the link for more information: http://www.mountainfest.co.uk/programme/event/marmot-athlete-poster-signing-in-the-marmot-tent
Hugh Harris, Marmot UK’s Sales Director said:
"At Marmot we are in the business of producing the best outdoor equipment available. We are constantly striving to up our game with better technology, lighter materials and new designs. Our inspiration for these designs comes from our athletes who are out there, pushing their physical and mental limits, but also pushing the limits of their gear too. That’s why it is crucial for us to have a team of athletes that not only represent the brand, but provide invaluable feedback and experience when we come to design new and exciting equipment. As one of the UK's strongest mixed climbers, Andy is extremely well placed to offer such feedback and inspiration. He is already very well known and will be a great ambassador for our brand in the coming years.”

“This deal with Marmot gives me the chance to work with a well respected, top quality brand. Being a part of a team of world-class athletes and the possibility of climbing with them is inspiring to say the least. Marmot kit looks after me in all conditions, which quite frankly is amazing. The encouragement and psych for all my various projects that comes from the team is brilliant too.
Touring the world competing on the Ice Climbing World Cup circuit, the Winter Olympics at Sochi and still finding time to repeat and grab first ascents of major hard mixed climbs is a challenge and it simply wouldn’t be possible without my sponsors.”
