MSR (Mountain Safety Research®), the Seattle-based manufacturer of standard-setting, high-performance outdoor equipment since 1969, has introduced two new tents for the Spring/Summer 2014 season. The MSR Elixir 2 tent and the MSR Elixir 3 tent offer first-time (and long-time) backpackers an extremely livable, surprisingly lightweight backpacking tent at a great value.
The Elixir 2 and the Elixir 3 tent each offer two large doors and vestibules for easy access, plus a large a large interior floor space. Both models include a footprint, which offers multiple setup options, including free-standing and Fast & Light® pitch using just the footprint and the rainfly. Designed for 3-season use, the tent balances breathable mesh fabric with solid canopy fabric for venting, warmth and privacy.
The extremely livable design features a door zipper orientation that allows the vestibule door to hang out of the way for unrestricted access, while the unique pole geometry creates optimized head room for each person. An adaptable rainfly allows for excellent stargazing views and also features rain gutters on the doors for increased protection in wet weather. Setup is fast and easy, thanks to color-coded poles, clips and webbing. A large floor space allows for 51 cm (20 in) mattresses to fit side-by-side.
