Bicycle alternatives dilemma

Hi. I live in a village which has 1:6 hills each side - both up and down.

I currently have an Orbea EBike - a Hybrid Gain F35 which weighs about 18 Kg. Unfortunately the battery has deteriorated such that the range is now only 26 miles.

My dilemma is this.

A replacement battery costs about £500, as does a range extender.

Which would people recommend - either buying a new battery or range extender or, buying a (considerably) lighter mountain bike with lower gearing?

The advantage of the range extender over a new battery is that it can be recharged anywhere - the ebike battery itself is not removable for charging.

The advantage(s) of the mountain bike would be - no charging needed, wouldn't need a cover on the motorhome bike rack!

Hope peeps can give me some advice on this!

Possibly not much help, but there is always the "rule 5" option....

Not quite sure what you mean by that!

I've just bought an Orro Gravel bike. Low gearing is 0.85 . You wouldn't need to go that low for a 1 in 6 - after a while

Harsh to stick to with an 18kg bike, though.

Problem is, when the battery dies you get terrible drag.......

Borrow one and ride up the hill to see if you're up to it without the assist?  The weight of you is probably more significant than that of the bike.
