Hello there.

I am looking at splashing out on a new roadie as my current steed (Giant SCR 3.0- basic aluminium bike) has done a good few years now and I haven't spend much money on it.

I am pretty certain I want to go for titanium for aesthetics and performance and my bike shop owner friend has strongly suggested a Moda Motif. Does anybody here have any experience of them?

It would be being used for a range of stuff from rides lasting a good few hours, through to sprint triathlons.

Anybody any views on this. I am out in Jersey so its not that easy to go to shops to have a proper look, although a shop over here does have one in the smaller size. Also I may be able to try my friends over easter, which should be about the right size.

Cheers.

I've only ever seen one in the flesh and they look really nice. However, I can't seem to get any info online about them. Apart from Fatbirds, who are selling the F+F for 1400 quid.

It it was me - I'd buy this http://www.dolan-bikes.com/image/cache/data/Titanium/Titanium-Frameset-1-w-...

and put the 400 quid saved towards the groupset or some wheels.

Should have said, current spec I am looking at is Shimano 105 Groupset and American Classic 320 wheels, with carbon finishing touches. My friend has sorted my out quite a good price, although it is certainly over budget from what I originally planned.

Seem ridiculously cheap for custom made ti. Unless they're buying them in from http://www.xacd.com.cn/product.asp?rootcl=1

I have had a quote from Justin at Burls, however I do like the look of the Moda, I was just looking to see if I could find any opinions from people who have ridden one.
In reply to Enty: I've been considering a titanium frame for Audaxing recently and had considered the Dolan. However, after looking at the geometry I was really put off; the combination of a very tall head tube and short top tube means you'd have a very upright riding position (especially valid for the OP if it's to be used in triathlons). I'm saying this without having sat on one though so maybe the numbers don't tell the full story. It's not particularly light for a titanium frame at 1.6kg either. It is definitely good value though!

Now I'm thinking about the Van Nicholas. More money but everyone raves about them.

My friend has a mods nocturne that I'm trying to get off him which is more of an audax bike but when stripped, it makes for a super light lasting forever racing steed. They are well built. I'd certainly consider getting one. I've never really figured what the major difference is between a top end and bottom end titanium framed bike that's not custom sized for you.

Had a go on a second hand motif this morning. Unfortunately it was too small, however certainly felt nice and responsive. Also the bike shop has offered me a good price on the full spec moda, so SRAM Force and American classic 420 wheels. Wasn't entirely sure about the double tap on the SRAM apex I tried this morning, anybody any experience with it?

How about one of these from Spa Cycles? http://www.spacycles.co.uk/products.php?plid=m1b0s21p2868

The website is pretty rubbish, granted, but I've been riding one of these for a couple of years now, and really can't say enough nice things about it.

Probably of no help to you but I'm also looking at getting a Moda bike (the Calore). Finally got to see one a couple of days ago and its a peach of a bike. I want to know a bit more about the company but they seem to want to be invisible. Its only because Evans stocks them that I'm (strongly) considering it. I'm assuming that Evans wouldn't be dealing with a 'fly by night' and any problems would be directed at Evans but it is hugely frustrating. Everyone I've spoken to says it a top company and nothing to worry about.

I've heard very good things about the company from a few sources. They are in the process of building a website I think. They also have a Facebook group if you are on there. Certainly make some smart bikes. I had a go on the motif. Unfortunately it was a bit small as it was a second hand bike at a good price, but felt very nice.
