Wheels and the march of technology...

This week I've needed to buy 2 sets of wheels. The first was super easy - they had to be 700c and 11 speed. A short drive and 30 minutes later and the job was done. The other set of wheels is proving to be far more difficult...

I'm trying to find 26" wheels, BUT, for rim brakes. Surely someone still makes them? All the shops I've been in only sell disc brake wheels. It's extremely annoying :-P They don't have to be super all singing all dancing carbon wheels, just something decent that'll fit a 10 speed cassette.

Mavic Crossride UB are a decent wheelset for the money.
In reply to Martin1978:
They do look good!
I'm thinking cheaper though
Ideally under £80

Take a look at Halfords, they do 26" rim brake wheels for about £40 a piece.

In reply to Martin1978:

Never thought of Halfords! Will do cheers

Chain Reaction Cycles have a large range of mavic rims in stock so you'd be sure to find something to suit budget and intended use.

In reply to jj0076:

I had a look on there but I get confused looking on-line as there are so many options, they mainly seemed to be for discs though.

I might have something (for a 26" MTB) in the garage ...
In reply to Andrew W:

Those are about the best option I've seen so far
In reply to ChrisJD:

Well I'm sure I could make you a super sneaky offer if you did

Merlin wheels are great.

Front: Mavic 217 on Hope Hub. Probably needs new bearing and has ding (see photos). You can have this wheel is you buy the other one

Rear: Mavic 117 on Shimano FH-M475. Rim/Disc compatible.

£15 collection?

In reply to ChrisJD:
He could probably fix the ding (mostly) with an adjustable spanner.

In reply to ChrisJD:

They look good to me, it's only a cheap bike (hence no £100 wheelsets), so as long as they'll fit a 10 speed cassette they'll be fine
.
I shall let you know later today as I'm investigating one final option - just trying to avoid having to drive to the peak district and back mainly

If you ask nicely, I'm sure someone on UKC could act as courier?
In reply to ChrisJD:

I shall investigate this possibility! To be honest if I have to drive it's probably not worth it as it'll cost more in petrol and time, than just buying some fancy wheels :-P
Just realised these probably aren't any good as I'm wanting to run 2.4's and 17mm is a bit narrow for that :-/

Back to the drawing board for me!

No worries
