Fontainebleau several forest fires this week- please do not smoke, light any kind of fire in the forest and adjacent areas.

As it is unlikely to be reported by many outside of France, I am posting in this forum. This week alone, there were several forest fires in Fontainebleau forest. On Sunday the 28th May 4.5 hectare of the forest (equivalent to 7+ football pitches) in Apremont was burned and 34 fire engines and nearly 80 fire fighters were needed to control the flame.

As a result of the fire in Apremont, the area of Apremont Envers is closed for access following the fire (shown in grey on the map). https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=668849638573276&set=pb.100063447386.... (original posted by La tribune libre de Bleau et d’ailleurs on Facebook)

In addition to the fire mentioned in the above article,  another fire started yesterday in Trois Pignons between Rocher des Souris and Justice de Chambergeot, still to be extinguished.  https://actu.fr/ile-de-france/noisy-sur-ecole_77339/pres-de-fontainebleau-7...

The prefecture of Seine et Marne, where the majority of the major climbing areas are located, issued an order to ban smoking and throwing away cigarette butts. Lighting any kind of fire, including camping stoves, in the forest and adjacent areas is also strictly forbidden. The prefecture’s order also forbids bivouacking/ camping in the forest apart from authorised camp/bivouac sites. Furthermore, it also asks people to report any suspicious behaviours to the Gendarmerie and the Police

After two consecutive very dry summers and winters, the local communities are very wary of the heightened risk of forest fires and wish all visitors to respect the no fire / no bivouacking rules in the forest.

I feel I have to do something to let people know. If you could share this information, that would be really great as the information is not widely shared outside of the Ile de France region. People in the local communities are really worried that Fontainebleau forest may become like California.

I'm trying to imagine Bleau without the fragrant waft of reefer from the locals, and it's hard to picture! 😁

Hope the forest can be protected over the summer 🤞

Oops, Apremont not Aprement.

FYI, smoking in the forest if caught, wins you a 500 euro fine. This has been in place since at least 2018, since the Gorge aux Chats fire and others that year.

I wasn't aware of the Pignons fire, thanks for posting.

Betty Beta, posts often about this concern on her Instagram. I like the occasional smoke but happily stick a patch on when climbing.

In reply to Tiny stone:

I've fixed those typos. There was also one on Rocher des Chambergeot, I changed to Justice de Chambergeot

Thank you for the information about the fine. A Milly resident told me, from the 1st June, using a fire in the forest became a criminal offence, a 500 euro fine and a possibility of prosecution, perhaps??? The authorities try to stop a similar situation to what happened in Gironde last summer, I suppose.
