Western peak midge free bouldering

Planning on venturing away from Sheffield to try some bouldering on the far side of the Peak. Hopefully to a crag that will be midge free/light. We like the look of the Roaches or Newstone+Baldstone. Any advice???

Unless there's a breeze, I'd go do some polished limestone nonsense, or just go to the pub instead.

In reply to Jack Whiteley: Went climbing at Dovestones Edge in the Chew Valley at the weekend - no midges up on the moors especially with a breeze. If you dont fancy soe. wilderness bouldering you'll probably be fine at Wimberry too some of the boulders are pretty high up.

Have a look at the excellent Over the Moors....

New Mills is always surprisingly midge free, Wimberry on the other hand was a midge fest a few weeks back.

What an impressively misguided post. Anywhere near any moors will be horrendous unless there's a breeze (or it's raining), since the bastards live in the peat bogs.

Blackstone Edge just about scrapes into the peak district - I've been bouldering up there a lot recently. There's usually a decent breeze which keeps the midges away.
