 Team BMC 02 Feb 2017
Come along to our next gathering of Peak District climbers and walkers and get involved in the work of the BMC.

Date: Wednesday 8 February 2017, starting at 7.30pm
Venue: The Maynard, Main Road, Grindleford S32 2HE

BMC area meetings are run by volunteers and are your chance to join in with debate and influence decisions about what happens in your area as well as the rest of the country.

Moors for the Future will be attending to explain what they’ve been doing, and what many of you have probably seen, in/around the Peak with their fantastic work that will hopefully see our open moorland flourish again.

All are welcome. The BMC will provide food.
See the BMC Local Areas site for more details of the meeting and to download the latest Peak Area Newsletter: http://community.thebmc.co.uk/Event.aspx?id=3817

In reply to Team BMC:

If you are interested in helping to monitor Ring Ouzel nests this spring, please come along to this meeting.

There has been a lot of successful work done by climbers, BMC volunteers and particularly Bill Gordon, the ranger at Stanage, over the years to protect breeding Ring Ouzels. With the Eastern Moors Partnership taking on management of Burbage and Bill moving towards retirement we are trying to spread some of the monitoring workload and continue this effort.

We’re looking for volunteers, especially climbers and walkers, willing to help monitor nests - likely visiting Stanage or Burbage (as a minimum) once a week for a four week period in the spring.

It would be great to have people who have previously carried out bird nest monitoring e.g. through the BTO Nest Record Scheme, or who would be keen to sign up to the scheme, but this isn’t crucial. More details here: https://www.bto.org/volunteer-surveys/nrs

And more details of the EMP work here: http://www.visit-eastern-moors.org.uk/wildlife/birds/ring-ouzels.html

Bill and I will be at the meeting to chat to - if you can’t make it but would like to be involved, or for any more info generally, please drop me an email.

Cheers,
Kim Leyland (contract ecologist for the Eastern Moors Partnership)
