Howlerhirst Crag Howlerhirst Quarry

Really great news for one of the truly great crags of Northumberland. The lengthy ban currently in place for Howlerhirst has been lifted. The new advice is as follows:

Peregrines have occasionally been spotted at the crag in the past - please contact the BMC Access Team if you see a pair nesting on the crag. (Individual birds may use the crag, but only a nesting pair requires a temporary restriction.)

The routes and problems at Howlerhirst are largely great, very quick-drying (some even facing S) and the position spectacular. The best time of year to visit is Spring (when the ban was in place), so this is a really good outcome.

In order to maintain this situation, please try and stay low impact/ low profile during the spring, ask at the farm if parking to the N (as per the access guidelines) and report any birds to me/the BMC. Peregrines are fab birds to watch, but make sure you stay out of their way.

Thank you,

Franco
