Hi, does anyone know the deal with climbing at lulworth cove? I'm reading conflicting things, the estate saying that climbing is banned but bmc saying it is on open acsess land therefore climbing is permitted? Hoping to go in a few weeks
Should be fine. The estate makes a periodic show of cracking down (presumably to discourage tourists from scrambling up too high, nailing themselves by jumping in on to rocks etc.) but you're very unlikely to have any issues.
We recently looked into this when preparing the new Dorset guide (which, incidentally was been published yesterday) and there should no longer be any restrictions to climbing there. Historically there were some (although they were rarely enforced) but these have now been lifted. I think the BMC page is correct and other pages just haven't been updated yet.
